So "One more thing", a frase commenly used by Apple to generate some excitement. At the end of the Keynote in 2017, Tim Cook said: "One more thing", and what did this lead to? He announced some new features that left us all surprised and excited. And now 3 years later, Apple has decided to do something even bigger...they have created their own computer chip which will dominate this market.
You can read everything you need to know about the new Apple M1 chip in this blog post.
Apple Silicon
Until now, the computer chip industry has been dominated by Intel. In fact, Apple has been using these chips for 15 years already. This is now changing, after years of development by Apple Silicon. The new chip could be another unique feature for Apple and its Macintosh computers. Thanks to Apple Silicon, iPhones, iPads and Macs will now run on the same software platform for the first time. Starting 2020, all Macs will be equipped with their own M1 chips, which could give Apple a significant advantage if it delivers on its promise of efficiency and speed.
Apple's new M1 chip
The most important things:
- Doubled battery life
- Included in the new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini.
M1 is just the first step for Apple Silicon. Before its introduction, Macs had several separate chips: Apple T2, I/O chip, DDR4 memory, CPU, and Thunderbolt controller. Now they are united in the M1 chip - the fastest CPU in the world.
The M1 chip is currently the fastest on the market with 16 billion transistors. The 8 core CPU consists of 4 cores each for fast performance and high efficiency. Up to an 8-core graphics processing unit (GPU) for exceptional graphics and a 16-core neural engine.
M1 will be built into the new Mac mini, MacBook Pro 13' inch and MacBook Air. According to Apple, "we can expect super-fast speeds, mesmerising graphics and incredible energy efficiency and battery life."
The M1 chip models will be available starting on 17/11/2020.
