Leather Loop

The Leather Loop is a leather Apple Watch strap exclusively for the larger watch cases - starting with the 42 mm, then the 44 mm. Today, however, it is compatible with the 44 mm / 45 mm and 49 mm. The Leather Loop debuted with the Apple Watch when it was released on 24 April 2015. The design has also remained unchanged since its debut, except for refreshed seasonal colours. To this day, Apple has released 18 different colours. Unfortunately, there won't be any more new colours as Apple discontinued the Apple Leather Loop with the release of the Apple Watch Series 7.

The Leather loop is made of Venezia leather handcrafted in Arzignano, Italy. The artisanal tannery where the straps are made has existed for five generations. Thanks to a refined process of beating and rolling, the beautiful, granulated texture comes out even better. Hidden in the soft, quilted leather are magnets that allow you to smoothly wrap the material around your wrist for a perfect fit and a beautiful look.

In Apple's product video for the Apple Watch, Sir. Jony Ive described the Leather Loop as follows:

"The Leather Loop comes in a soft, padded leather that hides magnets for attachment and adjustment. We have used traditional leather, but in a new sports context designed for optimal comfort."

At the debut of the Apple Watch, four Leather Loops were available: Stone, Bright Blue, Black and Light Brown. Each of these colours was available alongside the 42 mm stainless steel version of the Apple Watch or could be purchased separately for $149.

The Leather Loop's magnet is very strong. The band closes with a satisfying click and stays firmly in place, even if you move your arm energetically. However, if you want to remove it, it is easy to pull off. As a result, you don't have to worry about the strap coming loose while running around or during energetic movements. The Leather Loop is not water-resistant like the Sport Band, Milanese Loop or Link Bracelet are.

Leather Loop Size

The Apple Leather Loop is made exclusively for the large watch cases. When Apple announced the Series 7, the first model with a 45 mm case, production of the Leather Loop stopped. As a result, the Leather Loop is only available in the 42 and 44 mm models. Fortunately, these straps are compatible with the 45 mm and 49 mm Apple Watch.

The Leather Loop comes in two sizes. Medium fits wrists of 150 to 185 mm and large fits wrists of 180 to 210 mm. Because it is a loop and has a magnetic clasp, it is not limited to adjustment holes within those sizes, like a Sport band for example. You can snap the Loop anywhere along the band. That means you can not only get the perfect fit for your wrist, but you can adjust that fit throughout the day as often and as precisely as you want. If it starts to feel a little loose, you easily tighten.

To find out whether you need the medium or large size, it is best to measure your own wrist. There are several ways to do this. It is important to measure for the lump that sits on your wrist. To measure your wrist, you will need a string or cord and a ruler or tape measure. It can also be done with just a tape measure, this is explained in Method 2.

Methode 1:  To find out what wrist size you have:

1. Grab a piece of string or cord
2. Wrap the string around your wrist
3. Make sure it fits snugly around your wrist
4. Hold the string where the end meets
5. Then lay the string or cord along a rulerl
6. See how long the string is
7. This is your wrist size!

Methode 2: Measure Apple watch size

1. Grab a tape measure
2. Put the tape measure around your wrist
3. See where the end of the tape measure meets
4. This is your wrist size!

Better fit ensures better measurements

The best results with features like wrist sensing, the Taptic Engine and the electrical and optical heart rate sensors are obtained when the back of the Apple Watch makes contact with the skin. If you wear the Apple Watch properly fitted (not too tight, not too loose and with enough slack so your skin can breathe), the Watch will sit comfortably on your wrist and allow the sensors to do their job.

You may want to tighten your Apple Watch band during workouts. Then loosen it again when you're done. Also, the sensors only work when you wear the Apple Watch on top of your wrist. If the Apple Watch does not stay in place properly or if the sensors do not measure your heart rate, tighten the strap slightly. The Apple Watch should be snug but comfortable.

How do you recognise a genuine Apple Leather Loop?

At SB Supply, we only sell original Apple Watch straps. You can 100% assume it's genuine. If you want to check whether the strap has the genuine characteristics of an Apple Watch Leather Loop pay attention to the following features.

  4. Imprint 'Assembled in China' > Apple's connector says 'Assembled in China'.
  5. Imprint on the side of the connector pin > There is a very small imprint of a code on the side of the connector pin. .
  6. Other materials and colours > Look carefully at the material of the straps that it is not plastic. See the Bandbreite app to make sure the colour is actually released by Apple.
  7. Neater finish > Look closely at the finish of the edges. Apple always provides a nice finish.
  8. Inform yourself > The more you know about the original straps, the sooner you can fish out the fake versions.
  9. Genuine leather > There is a mark on one side of the band that says it is genuine leather with 'natural leather' underneath.
  10. Check the Apple Code on Bandbreite: If you still have doubts whether your Apple Watch band is genuine, you can also look up the Apple Code on Bandbreite to make sure the colour was actually released by Apple.
